Beau was ranked #2 in UKC conformation for Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dogs in 2006 and #4 for 2007. I’m very happy with how Beau did in the ring and what he’s accomplished.

Beau is registered with the NALC and UKC. He came from Cat’s Cradle Catahoulas (Can Ch. South Slough’s Bull X Can Ch. Cat’s Cradle’s Annie). View Beau’s Four Generation Pedigree and his Awards and Titles.
Beau is named for the Beaufort Sea, an arctic sea on the northern coast of Alaska and the Yukon Territory. I always liked the name “Beau” for a Catahoula, but wasn’t fond of the typical variations of the name. Since Beau is Canadian-born and living in the States, it was good to give a name that was both American and distinctly Canadian. Additionally, the Beaufort Sea is believed to be the end of the Northwest Passage–a quest for many arctic explorers in the past centuries. As I knew putting a Championship on my bobtail puppy was going to be something of a challenge, giving a “questing” name seemed approprate. Beau is my sisu dog, but that is a story for another time.
Beau’s picture has appeared in issues of Fido Friendly, UKC Bloodlines, Bushwhacker Wilderness Journal, and the North Star. For info on those, check out the awards page. He can also be seen in the Catahoula Calendar (benefit for Catahoula Rescue, Inc.) each year from 2004-2008.
Beau is a very special dog for many reasons but has made it into the history books with the distinction of being the first UKC Champion bobtail Catahoula. He finished his Championship on April 6, 2003 at the UKC Michigan Classic by winning a Group 3 placement in a very tough Herding Group.
He again added a note to the books when, on July 28, 2007, at the Maple Leaf Kennel Club in Georgetown Ontario, Canada, he finished his Grand Champion title by winning the Champion of Champions class. He went on for a Breed win and a Group 1. He is the first UKC Grand Champion bobtail Catahoula.
I couldn’t be any more proud of my big goofy boy. He is my first conformation dog–my first Champion, first Grand Champion, first Group placer, first Group winner, first Best in Show, first Canine Good Citizen, first Therapy Dog International, first Breed winner, first with a working title, and first dog ranked in the Breed Top Ten. He will be a tough act to follow.
Beau was the first Catahoula to earn the title of Back Pack Grand Master (BPGM) from WET DOG.
Beau has passed the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen exam and the test for Therapy Dogs International.

Beau is not your average show dog. While I enjoy shows and he loves being in the ring, he doesn’t spend his days lying in his crate only to be pulled out to perform. He’s my friend and has been through a lot with me.
He’s always gotten me out of the woods. There’s nothing like hunkering down under a tarp in a thunderstorm with someone to really strengthen the bond between the two of you.
Beau’s first major backpacking trip was in August of 2002 in the Manistee National Forest. Check out pictures and a short trip report here.

We completed Michigan’s 72-mile High Country Pathway over 5 days during Labor Day week 2005.
Beau inspired me to finally put up the recipe for dog deskunker.
