Tommy was the first purebred Catahoula I ever owned and the first one I ever met. He passed away on December 23, 2001 at 9 years young. He was a very good dog despite a rough start in life and his absence from the family is still felt.
Tommy wasn’t as snappy at obedience as Lucy was, but considering what he went through, he did just fine by me.

The Catahoula Leopard is a cur dog. They were originally developed in the swamps of the south and are still used for hunting hogs, coon, possum, deer, and squirrels. Today they can also be seen in SAR, therapy, agility, obedience, law enforcement, weight pull, hunting hogs, bear, raccoon and big cats, working cattle, and many other venues. They are the official State Dog of Louisiana and are recognized by several registries including the NALC, LCCA, CCBA, ARF, ARBA, ADBA, UKC and can also be shown in the ACA, which is not a registry, but a prominent all-encompassing club.
