DO NOT SEND BOOTIES
It is officially a HOAX. FEMA and USAR Task Forces have NEVER made any requests for booties. SAR teams supply themselves and the booties will NOT reach them nor are they needed.
There MAY be requests for out-of pocket-expenses in the future (personal property replacement) but at this time NO equipment requests have been made from ANY SAR groups (this is from the horse’s mouth)
IT’S HERE!! The list of what is needed (actully, it’ll take you offsite to the ABC news site). It lists under dogs that booties are needed… they are NOT- this article is several days old. Get the list here.
Donate blood and plasma. Coolers for blood products are also needed as shipping is limited. Monetary donations are greatly appreciated. They need helping hands at the Red Cross as well. Visit the American Red Cross for more information on what you can do to help at this time. (The server may be overloaded intermittantly. Please be patient) You can also try 1-800-HELP-NOW or 1-800-GIVE-LIFE
A friend working with relief units has passed on to me that respirator masks and canisters are needed, as well as Vick’s VapoRub. These supplies can be sent to:

Amazon.com is making it easy to donate to the ARC disaster relief fund. Click here to donate.
care2.com and clif bars are donating money for every click recieved at this link. Clif Bars has also donated Clif and Luna bars to the rescuers.
Arrowhead fabrics (dogbooties.com) has donated special booties to those who do need them. Suppliers have donated either free or reduced materials and shipping.
Zuke’s (PowerBones) has donated PowerBones to the Rescue dogs.
JB Wholesale Catalogue is working on supplying the dogs. They sold out of all useful items and are no longer taking SAR orders. The NYPD has said to thank all who made donations. Repeat: Booties are NOT needed.
I didn’t start the emails/posts about SAR dogs needing booties, but I’m glad people are thinking about them. I am not in New York or the surrounding areas, so asking me to help by delivering supplies/fostering animals will be an exercise in futility. Word is (from NASAR) that the money donated will get to exactly where it is needed and donated supplies are having troubles getting through due to delivery routes and destinations cut off. Most dogs don’t even need the booties and would in fact be hampered by them.
Monetary donations for SAR dogs are accepted below

If you made booties and now think they aren’t needed, don’t throw them out. Donate them to the local 4-H club, Scouts, Hiking club, veterinarian, groomer or animal shelter. They will be of use to someone!
